Affordable health insurance is not an easy thing to come by. Even those who are covered though their employers, will pay constantly rising costs for health care. Those who are self-employed or who do not work, find the cost of health insurance outrageous. For most, buying independent insurance is not an option due to the high cost. At the same time, however, it seems that not having health insurance is a risk too large to take. One major accident could cause a family to deplete their entire savings or loose their home.

Even those who qualify for insurance coverage through their employers are having a difficult time paying the premiums. This is leading to more and more dependence on Medicaid. Medicaid is a state-run program that provided health insurance to those whose income level is in a predetermined range and who cannot afford to purchase medical insurance. If you cannot afford health care coverage, you should know that you do have options through this program.

To apply for Medicaid services there are some simple steps that you will need to take.

1.Contact the State Department of Social Services or the County Health Department
both of which should be located locally.

2.Ask for an application for Medicaid services. This application will need to be filled
out in the office. If you unable to travel to the office contact them and arrange to
have someone come to your home.

3.Take with you your social security card, your birth certificate, proof of address, any
bank account information, pay stubs and any information regarding existing insurance.

4.Be ready to answer personal questions about your current financial situation, since
approval for Medicaid is based on your income level.

You should be aware that each state has different procedures for applying and using Medicaid. Also keep in mind that false information provided on a Medicaid application will not only cause you to be disqualified, but you will also be required to repay the expenses and could be charged with fraud.
